Company raised nearly $30,000 for charity in 2016, among other initiatives.

For Immediate Release: October 5, 2017

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – First Florida Credit Union was named one of the First Coast’s top Partners in Philanthropy during the Jacksonville Business Journal’s recent awards ceremony. The credit union was recognized for its extensive nonprofit work, including providing financial education to nearly 1,000 local youth in 2016.

First Florida also donated nearly $30,000 and more than 1,200 volunteer hours to charitable initiatives across the state last year. It was one of 19 companies honored at the Jacksonville Business Journal awards ceremony and only one of two credit unions recognized.

In its award presentation, the Jacksonville Business Journal specifically highlighted First Florida’s efforts to educate children and young adults through presentations on financial literacy. It also recognized how First Florida worked closely with nonprofit organizations to collect school supplies for foster children, provide food during the holidays and walk to support breast cancer.

First Florida will continue to aid charities and expand its community education initiatives, said Michelle Troha, First Florida’s senior vice president of marketing.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is part of First Florida’s DNA,” Troha said. “Our mission is to enrich people every day, and being involved in charitable activities is one of the many ways we live out that mission.”

The Jacksonville Business Journal presents its Partners in Philanthropy Awards each year to companies that have done exemplary charitable work in Northeast Florida. For more information on the awards and the complete list of honorees, visit bizjournals.com/jacksonville.
